Dolly Dambach of Jackson held a book signing at Grace Cafe Thursday. Her new book, "And That's the Way It Was," captures old-fashioned values of honesty and loyalty, not giving up, doing what you must and the Golden Rule.

In 1999, Dambach began writing for the Southeast Missourian's TBY publication. A softbound edition of her poems, "With God's Help," published that year were therapeutic to Dambach after her husband's death in 1998. They just flowed naturally.

"I still can't read them," Dambach said. "I get too emotional."

The new book, full of funny stories and family history, is about the years she spent as a child living in Cape Girardeau and later Jackson. "I think I had an interesting family with interesting characters," said Dambach. The book is not a money-making venture but a sharing venture. "It is an accomplishment I needed to pursue for my own satisfaction," she said.

Dambach shares her time as a volunteer in the Reading Assistants Volunteer Enthusiasts program at Jackson. She also is a hospital volunteer.

Her next book signing is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at Tracy's Place, 127 W. Main St., Jackson.
