The Cape Girardeau Public Library has released its schedule of events for August. n Dr. George Suggs will have a program featuring his first published fiction book, "Shady Grove: A Novel," at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hirsch Community Room.   • Dr. George Suggs will have a program featuring his first published fiction book, "Shady Grove: A Novel," at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hirsch Community Room. The novel is set in Southeast Missouri during the Depression. Suggs has previously written nonfiction books, including "Rush Hudson Limbaugh and His Times," and numerous articles and book reviews.
  • A presentation titled "What Tree Rings Tell Us" will be held in the Hirsch Community Room at 2 p.m. Aug. 11. Participants should bring a list of important family dates and a fine-tip permanent marker. Participants will have the chance to record their family history on a "tree cookie."
  • Free training sessions in beginner Internet searching will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 25. Commonly used Internet terms, search engines, different types of searches and how to determine a reliable Internet resource are among the topics presented. Register by calling adult services at 334-5279 or stopping by the Reference desk.
  • Paul Nenninger will conduct a session for those interested in learning the basics of Microsoft Word, a word processing program, from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24. Topics include opening the program, using a template for a basic letter, using the toolbar for font color and size and justifying margins. The session is free, but registration is required. Register by calling adult services at 334-5279 or stopping by the Reference desk.
  • From 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 teens are invited to show off their guitar, dance and computer gaming skills. Pizza and sodas provided. Contact the youth services desk at 334-5279 or register online at capelibrary.org.
  • Wireless Internet connection capabilities are now available at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
