Attorney general closes investigation of canceled Joplin concert

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Attorney General has closed his investigation into a $60,000 loan from a Joplin tornado recovery fund for a concert.

The concert organizers, which was to star Travis Tritt, asked the Community Foundation for Southwest Missouri for a loan for the Sept. 11 event in Joplin. The organizers said the proceeds would go to the Joplin Recovery Fund, which helps recovery from the May 22 tornado.

After some citizens complained, Tritt pulled out of the concert and it was canceled.

Attorney General Chris Koster said in a letter Wednesday that the concert organizers were well-intentioned but didn't provide the public enough information about how loan met the purpose of the recovery fund.

The Joplin Globe reported Koster said that because the money was returned, the matter is closed.
