MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Broadband Internet access is now available in Marble Hill and Bollinger County after an expansion of AT&T's service area.
The development was announced at a recent Bollinger County Chamber of Commerce meeting attended by AT&T personnel and Republican state Rep. Shelley Keeney.
"We hear a lot these days about the need for economic investment, particularly in smaller rural communities like Marble Hill," Keeney said at the event. "Today's announcement by AT&T shows its commitment to our community and its future, and I am very appreciative of its efforts."
AT&T has invested more than $2 billion in Missouri since 2007 to build up its network to make high-speed Internet accessible in rural areas, said Marsha Haskell of AT&T's Cape Girardeau office.
"We're not getting there fast enough, but we are committed," Haskell said. "We would like for as many people to have this service as possible."
According to information provided by AT&T, the company's next step is to expand into 4G broadband in the area and through out the country and make faster Internet service a reality in less-populated areas.
Haskell said that people who have been using dial-up service may find that they can access the faster 3G service. Anyone can visit the AT&T Coverage Viewer on line at www.att.com and measure coverage quality from a street address, intersection, ZIP code or even a landmark.
