The Southeast Missourian asked people what they thought about the Missouri Highway Commission putting a new interchange at East Main Street and Interstate 55 on its 15-year plan.
Charles Ireland: "I think it's a terrific idea. When East Main is completed, it will be a very convenient way to get onto the interstate. It will probably decrease the traffic coming over to Highway 61 off of Ridge Road."
David Medling: "I don't think Jackson needs it. We have enough ins and outs already. You can come in from Fruitland, Kingshighway, Highways 72 and 25. Let's just keep Jackson's small-town atmosphere. Maybe if Jackson keeps growing, in 20 years, then let's talk about it."
Shawn Hartle: "It's a good idea. It will bring in more traffic off the interstate, more business and possibly industry to Jackson. It would also make it easier for Jackson residents to access the interstate from that side of town."
Nancy Collier: "I think it's good for Jackson to expand. The city needs another outlet to Interstate 55 that's convenient, besides Highway 61."
Elwanda Seabaugh: "It doesn't really matter to me, but I guess it would be all right if it's best for our area. It would probably help with the growth of Jackson, but I probably would not use it."
