Some Missouri lawmakers want to put a measure before voters which would allow the general public to carry concealed weapons after a background check and handgun training. The Southeast Missourian asked people about the issue.
Jack Givens: "I would vote yes. I've seen it work in other states, and I don't see why it wouldn't work here. I think we should be as well-armed as the criminals."
Sam Masterson: "I would vote against it. I don't think we need guns yet, but it may come to that. I would hate to think that someone walking by might have a gun."
Debbie Brown: "I would vote for it. With so many criminals out there and so many with illegal weapons already, I think people should be allowed to defend themselves."
Charles Travers: "I would vote no. I was in Vietnam for seven years and saw a lot of dead bodies. I'm just afraid of too many guns around, because we do have some nuts walking around on the streets."
Lisa Wolters: "I think it's a good idea. I feel a person has a right to carry a weapon. I would feel that with a background check required, responsible people would be able to carry concealed weapons."
