The Southeast Missourian asked students at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Jackson about their favorite books. Literacy will be promoted next week with the YELL campaign.
Alicia Sachse: "I liked reading `Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul.' It tells true stories about life and its most difficult challenges and obstacles. It's a book you can really learn from."
Libby Beussink: "I liked `Homecoming' by Cynthia Voigt. It's about how four children struggle to find someone who truly loves them and will always be there for them. I loved how Dicey had so much determination to find them."
Christopher Ellis: "I read `Twister,' which was about tornadoes. Scientists tried to get these little balls up into the tornado. It was supposed to warn people so they would have more time to get to safety."
Teresa Miller: "I liked reading `Charlotte's Web.' It's about a pig that was a runt. They were going to kill it, but their little girl didn't let them. When he got older, they sent the pig to another farm and he made friends with a spider."
Andrew Meyer: "I liked `The War of the Worlds.' Aliens came from Mars and they were going to try to destroy the earth. The aliens blew up the humans with their heat rays."
