Saturday the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will take a cue from other organizations' fund-raising activities when it hosts its first ever Trivia Night.
The event, a trivia competition between teams of eight, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Cape Senior Center, 921 N. Clark Ave.
Like other not-for-profit organizations, the arts council is always looking for different, fun ways to raise money, said board member Rhonda Weller-Stilson. Trivia Night was a novel fund raiser for the group, but not for Cape Girardeau.
"Several of us have attended them and had a good time, so we were interested in having one ourselves," said Weller-Stilson.
Trivia Night will raise money for the arts council's community programming, supporting events like the annual ArtsCape festival. Some fund raisers only target specific council projects, but money from Trivia Night could be used for a variety of council activities.
Weller-Stilson said the arts council hopes to fill 19 to 20 tables for the event. So far eight tables have signed up.
Questions will come from a variety of categories with a special emphasis on arts-related trivia like performing arts, film and TV, architecture and popular music.
The event will be alcohol-free, said Weller-Stilson, and all ages are invited to attend, though young children would probably have a hard time answering the questions.
Prizes will be awarded for the first-, second- and third-place tables, along with a raffle.
Brian Alworth will emcee the event. For more information, call the arts council at 334-9233.
