The Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts has changed its name to the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri and has adopted a new logo.
"Although the events sponsored by the organization are well-known throughout the area, we needed a recognizable umbrella name and logo to give the arts council heightened visibility and identity," said Marge Nichols Sullivan, a member of the council's board of directors.
Founded in 1962 as the Christian Arts Council by Otto F. Dingeldein and other Cape Girardeans, the council has evolved from an all-volunteer organization to one with a paid staff and national juried exhibitions.
Currently located at 1707 Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau, the Arts Council is the oldest community arts council in Missouri.
