A series of arts and crafts workshops will begin today in Cape Girardeau for people over age 50.
Every Thursday in September, the techniques of "tie pillows" will be taught from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The first class begins today at the Senior Learning Center, 805 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau.
Pat Swallow will instruct all the workshops.
All materials for the tie pillow class will be provided with the class fee of $7. Reservations are required and persons can call 290-5944.
Future arts and craft workshops include: trapunto, Oct. 3, 10 and 17 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; quilling, Oct. 29 from 2-4 p.m.; and needle tatting, Nov. 14 and 21 and Dec. 5, 12 and 19 from 1-4 p.m.
The workshops are part of the Senior Learning Program, which is a series of educational and wellness programs made available to older adults in the region.
These workshops and the Senior Learning Program are sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts, the Missouri Arts Council, the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging, the Department of Education/Secondary Education, and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
