Art Experience '91, the annual Juried Fine Art Competition, is the June exhibit at Gallery 100.

The competition is sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts.

"There will be a broad range of works in Art Experience '91," said Beverly Strohmeyer, executive director of the Arts Council. The exhibit includes works from artists in Michigan, Tennessee, Iowa, California, New Jersey, Kansas, Ohio, New York, and several other states including Missouri. One artist is from China, she said.

Local artists in the competition are Lane Fabrick and Marty Mangrum, both of Cape Girardeau.

"There will be old-masters- style realism and contemporary abstracts," Strohmeyer said.

Thirty-eight of the artists' works will be displayed at Gallery 100 through June 28. More than 250 works were submitted from 86 artists in 19 states and Canada.

Miki Gudermuth is chairman of Art Experience and redesigned the competition for a national scale. Judges are Evan Lindquist of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and Pat Reagan-Woodard, director of the Southeast Missouri State University Museum.

Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners and will be presented at an opening reception Sunday at the gallery from 2-4 p.m. The gallery is at 100 Broadway in the Boatmen's Bank building.

Regular gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. weekdays. Extended hours will be offered during Riverfest June 7 from 1-7 p.m. and June 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Art Experience '91 is sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts as an exhibition space for local and regional artists.
