Two upstairs apartments were damaged as a result of a Thursday fire that police believe may have been deliberately set. There were no injuries.
The fire, at an apartment building at 212 S. Lorimier, was reported at about 7:45 p.m. by residents of the building.
According to police, a 37-year-old white male was in custody late Thursday in connection with the case. Charges were pending against the suspect, a police spokesman said.
One apartment in the building was "fully involved" in flames when firefighters arrived, and the other apartment had minor damage, said a fire department spokesman. Minor smoke damage was reported in other sections of the building.
Fire officials said Thursday night that the fire was still under investigation.
A family member of a woman who lived in one of the damaged apartments said she believed the fire had been set by an acquaintance of the woman.
The woman and her 7-year-old daughter were not at home at the time of the fire. Residents of the other apartment were also not at home.
