According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute that began earlier in the evening in Stoddard County. The sheriff's department said the dispute reconvened on Robinwood Lane in Scott County where Windes is alleged to have tried to run over two people with his truck. This led to a fight and stabbing on Dale Street, the department said.

Deputies responded to the disturbance call about 10 p.m. July 2.

At least one person was taken to a Sikeston hospital and had emergency surgery for stab wounds as a result of the disturbance, Walter said; several others were injured.
