City considers new radio signal water meters

DEXTER, Mo. -- A vote by the Dexter Board of Aldermen last week gave the go-ahead to start negotiating a project to work on water meters in the city. The project would either replace or retrofit meters that would emit a radio signal allowing city meter readers to read usage rates from the road. The total projected cost of the program is about $700,000. While there will be no rate increase to consumers to cover the cost of the program, it is possible some residents could see an increase in their bills reflecting the efficiency of the newer meters.

Malden official resigns over alleged harassment

MALDEN, Mo. -- The chief of police at Malden resigned his position last week. Rod Dill has recently been under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol since he was accused of sexual harassment by a co-worker, although no charges were ever filed. During an executive session in which Dill's resignation was discussed and ultimately accepted, the board agreed to a settlement involving the city, Dill and the accuser. The accuser has agreed to release the city of Malden, as well as Dill, from any liability regarding the matter. City leaders will appoint an interim chief until the April municipal election.
