Dexter school bond issue passes
DEXTER, Mo. -- In Dexter, polling data to the contrary, the school bond issue passed convincingly by a vote of 959-643. An online poll conducted by the Daily Statesman ending Feb. 27 indicated a dead heat, with 47.5 percent of respondents in favor and 47.5 percent opposed. Also in Dexter, incumbent R-XI school board member Herman Morse kept his seat on the board, to be joined by Annette Hux, succeeding Dr. Alan Chen who did not seek re-election. The two finished first and second in a field of eight, with Morse receiving 955 votes and Hux 438. Dexter aldermen Terry Battles, The Liberty Township General Road District question passed 1,349 to 412. A total of 4,228 voters cast ballots Tuesday.

Drainage problem in Cook addition discussed
KENNETT, Mo. -- Councilman Bill Branum asked his fellow councilmen to put more thought and investigation into the drainage problem in the Cook addition near the airport at the Kennett city council meeting Tuesday night. Mayor Donald Parker advised Branum that he felt the city didn't have a say in the matter since a portion of the drainage problem lies with the Kennett Municipal Airport.

Mayor-elect talks about some priorities
KENNETT, Mo. -- The new mayor-elect for the city of Kennett, Roger Wheeler, Sr. is excited and ready to get to work. He will be sworn into office April 17 during the Kennett city council meeting. Wheeler has served the city of Kennett since 1992, when he was first elected as Ward Four councilman. He served from 1992 till 1996, and again during the 2006 to 2007 term. As mayor elect, Wheeler plans to address the concerns and issues he was approached about during his campaign.
