A man was arrested Monday near Kennett, Mo., city limits after a police chase that began in Paragould, Ark.
The chase ensued after the Dunklin County Sheriff's office received a request to check on Richard Allen Dearing, who reportedly told his parents he had drunk antifreeze. But he wouldn't tell them where he was.
The sheriff's department received an alert about Dearing's behavior and that he was driving a white Toyota van with a tan driver's side door.
Dearing was observed in his vehicle near a lake near Paragould, said Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder.
When an officer approached the van, Dearing drove away and Paragould police began pursuing him. The Arkansas Highway Patrol soon followed.
The chase continued through Marmaduke and Rector and crossed the state line into Dunklin County, Mo.
Once there, Dearing was met by officers from the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Kennett police.
A highway patrolman laid a spike strip on the roadway that Dearing drove over, causing his vehicle's right front tire to go flat.
Dearing pulled onto to the shoulder of the road and surrendered.
Dearing was taken to the Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for further treatment.
