Storms and showers have dumped anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of rain across Southeast Missouri since Thursday morning, according to measurements taken by National Weather Service cooperative observers and radar rainfall estimates.
The hardest rainfall in Southeast Missouri fell in Bollinger, northern Cape Girardeau and Perry counties, National Weather Service meteorologist Christine Wielgos said around 11 a.m. today.
Observers recorded 3.52 inches of rainfall since 5 a.m. Thursday in Marble Hill, 4.5 inches in central Bollinger County between Marble Hill and Grassy and numbers between 3 and 5 inches in Perry County, Wielgos said.
The heaviest rain fell north of a line from Grassy to Cape Girardeau. Areas south of that line had lower totals, but precipitation amounts were generally around the 2 inch mark, Wielgos said.
Flooding has been minor and isolated, Wielgos said, thanks to the long period of time over which the rain has fallen. A flood watch remains in effect for the region until 1 p.m.
Light to moderate showers were expected to continue today, with the potential to drop an additional half-inch to inch of rain area.
