The Area Wide United Way is accepting nominations for the 16th Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards to distinguish and honor the phenomenal volunteer efforts in Southeast Missouri.

This program was developed to recognize the array of efforts contributed from numerous individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted our community in the past year.

The Area Wide United Way encourages local agencies and organizations to recognize their outstanding volunteers. Nominations may be submitted in four categories:

Youth/Young Adult (25 years of age and under)

Adult (26 through 59 years of age)

Senior Adult (60 years of age plus)

Group/Organization (two or more individuals).

Individuals may nominate themselves and individuals, agencies, or organizations may submit multiple nominations.

After receiving all nominations, a panel of qualified judges will select an outstanding volunteer from each category to receive an award.

Luncheon plans

A luncheon will be held at Drury Lodge on April 29 to recognize all nominees and present awards to the winner of each category.

All nominators and nominees are encouraged to attend.

Nomination forms can be requested by calling the Area Wide United Way at 334-9634, or can be picked up at the United Way office located at 1858 Broadway, Cape Girardeau.

Nominations must be submitted no later than March 28th.

The Area Wide United Way serves as the leader in uniting people and resources around health and human service issues to care for people in our community.

Contributions from the 2002 campaign totaled more than $920,000 and will support 44 programs within 32 agencies throughout Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City and Perry County.
