The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for much of Southeast Missouri, including Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry, Scott and Stoddard counties.
The area will remain under the warning until 7 p.m. Thursday.
The warning means heat indexes of about 105 are expected during the afternoon.
People are urged to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, wear lightweight loose clothing and drink plenty of water.
