Seven area high school students recently received scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 1996-97 year.
Two Jackson High School students received the President's Scholarship. Rebekah R. Wunderlich of Jackson and Justin L. McCullough of Millersville were each awarded the $1,200 scholarship. Both will graduate in May.
The award is given to students who score 24 on the Enhanced ACT exam and rank in the upper 20 percent of their class.
Wunderlich is the daughter of James and Marian Wunderlich of Jackson. She plans to study early childhood education.
McCullough is the son of Jerry and Sara McCullough of Millersville. He plans to study pre-optometry at the university.
Four area students received the Regent's Scholarship from the university. It is awarded to high school seniors who earn a 27 on the Enhanced ACT and have a grade point average of at least 3.5. The award pays for incidental fees for eight semesters.
The scholarship recipients include Courtney A. Boren, daughter of Steven and Beverly Boren of Cape Girardeau; Jennifer L. Peters, daughter of Greg and Glenda Peters of Marble Hill; Shaun G. Craig, son of Norman and Emma Craig of Cape Girardeau and Leigh A. Robison, daughter of Jim and Charolyn Robison of Cape Girardeau.
A Notre Dame student received a Missouri Leadership and Boy's State Leadership award from Southeast Missouri State University.
Brent M. Garner of Cape Girardeau received a $500 one-year scholarship for the Missouri Leadership award. It is given to students who earn a 22 on the Enhanced ACT.
He also received a $300 one-time scholarship for the Boy's State Leadership award. It is given to students who attended Boy's State.
He is the son of Bob and Linda Garner and will graduate later this year.
