Summer vacation is rapidly drawing to a close as students, teachers and parents get ready for a new school year. Area schools are almost ready to begin for the 1992-93 school year.
Following is a synopsis of school openings:
Cape Girardeau schools
Cape Girardeau schools will open Thursday, Aug. 27, with a full day of school. An opening-of-school workshop for teachers is scheduled Aug. 25 at the Show Me Center.
Lunch prices for the school year are $1 for elementary students, $1.10 for secondary students and $1.55 for adults.
Notre Dame High School
Freshman orientation and a book sale at Notre Dame High School will be held Monday, Aug. 24.
The first full day of classes will be Tuesday, Aug. 25. School lunches will cost $1.50.
St. Vincent de Paul Grade School
St. Vincent de Paul Grade School will open school Wednesday, Aug. 26. Classes will be dismissed at 11 a.m.
The first full day of classes will be Thursday, Aug. 27. School lunches cost $1.
St. Mary Cathedral School
St. Mary Cathedral School will begin classes Wednesday, Aug. 26. Classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m.
Kindergarten students will begin school on Thursday, Aug. 27. Lunch costs 85 cents.
A back-to-school dinner is planned Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. for parents and students.
Trinity Lutheran
Trinity Lutheran School will open school Monday, Aug. 24, with a full day of classes.
School lunches costs 90 cents.
Jackson schools
Jackson will kick off the 1992-93 school year with a full day of classes Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Lunches will cost the same as last year: $1.20 per day, $6 a week, or $24 for 20 days.
St. Paul Lutheran
St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson will start classes Monday, Aug. 24, and school will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. that day. Tuesday, Aug. 25 is the first full day of classes.
Lunch will cost $1.
Immaculate Conception
The first day of school at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson will be Monday, Aug. 24. Classes will be dismissed early that day at 12:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, classes will be in session for a full day.
Lunch will be 90 cents.
Chaffee schools
Chaffee public schools will open Monday, Aug. 24, for a full day of classes.
Lunch will cost 80 cents for elementary students and 90 cents for high school students, the same as last year.
Oak Ridge schools
The Oak Ridge School District will begin classes Friday, Aug. 21. The first day of school will be a full day from 8:20 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Bus routes will remain approximately the same as last year.
Lunch prices will be 90 cents for elementary students, $1 for junior-senior high school students and 40 cents for those students who qualify for reduced-priced meals.
Kelly schools
Kelly schools will open with a full day of classes Wednesday, Aug. 26. Buses will run their regular routes at approximately the same times as last year.
Students are requested to ride the bus to school on the first day. Students in grades kindergarten through five will report to their classrooms. Students in grades six-eight will assemble in the elementary gym at 8:10 a.m. High school students are to report to the gymnasium at 8:10 a.m. for an assembly.
Delta schools
The first day of school in Delta will be Friday, Aug. 21, with school being dismissed at 1:10 p.m. that day. Lunch will be served.
Lunch prices will be $1 for grades seven-12, 90 cents for students in grades kindergarten-six, and 40 cents for students who qualify for reduced lunches.
Century Unit School District 100, Ullin, Ill.
Century Unit District will begin school Monday, Aug. 24, with student registration. Students will attend less than half a day and lunch will not be served.
The first full day for students will be Thursday, Aug. 25. School will be dismissed early that day.
Bus routes and times will be essentially the same as in previous years.
Century schools will offer breakfast as well as lunch this year. Lunch prices are 50 cents for grades kindergarten-six and 60 cents for grades seven-12. Breakfasts are 30 cents for all grades. Students who qualify may receive reduced price lunches for 15 cents and breakfasts for 10 cents.
Cape Christian School
Cape Christian School will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 31, with a full day.
Meadow Heights schools
Meadow Heights schools in Patton will start school Monday, Aug. 24, for a full day.
Nell Holcomb School
Nell Holcomb will open school on Wednesday, Aug. 26, with a full day of classes.
The new, school starting time is 8:15 a.m. and new dismissal time is 2:55 p.m. Lunch prices are 90 cents.
A new principal and counselor, Jack Mann, will be working with students this year.
Oran schools
The first day of school in Oran will be Friday, Aug. 21. The first day will be a full day.
Advance schools
Advance Schools will open Wednesday, Aug. 26, with a full day of classes.
The new superintendent is Jerry Delain Robison and the new high school principal is Joe Strobl.
Sikeston schools
Sikeston schools will open school on Monday, Aug. 24, with a full day of classes.
Lunch prices are $1 for elementary students and $1.25 for secondary students. The new principal at the high school is Randie Fidler.
Scott City schools
School starts in Scott City on Monday, Aug. 24, for a full day of classes.
Lunch prices are 85 cents for students in grades one through three, and $1 for students in grades four through 12.
School starts at 8 a.m. for students in grades kindergarten through sixth and at 8:25 a.m. for students in grades seven through 12.
Woodland School District
Classes start at Woodland School in Marble Hill on Wednesday, Aug. 19, for a full day. Classes start at 8:15 a.m. and are dismissed at 3 p.m.
Students will be greeted by a new high school principal, Mark Engelhardt.
Lunch prices are $3.50 per week for students in grades kindergarten through six and $3.75 per week for grades seven through 12.
Perryville School District
Classes at Perryville schools start Monday, Aug. 24, for a full day of school, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The district has hired a new elementary principal, Kelly McKerrow.
Meal prices for grades kindergarten through four are 75 cents for lunch and 50 cents for breakfast; and grades five through 12, 80 cents for lunch and 55 cents for breakfast.
Senior high school students can pick up class schedules Friday and Saturday.
