Five Southeast Missouri residents recently enlisted in the military. They include Shawn D. Holmes and Mark H. Taylor, both of Marble Hill, Jamie D. Talley and Damon H. Birmingham, both of Cape Girardeau, and Jason E. McTurnan of Bloomfield.

Holmes, a 1993 graduate of Woodland High School in Marble Hill, recently enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He is the son of John C. and Carole L. Holmes of Marble Hill.

Taylor, a senior at Woodland High School, joined the U.S. Navy through a delayed-entry program.

He will leave in August for training under the program which allows men and women to enlist up to a year before active duty begins.

Taylor is the son of John and Suzette Taylor of Marble Hill.

Jamie D. Talley, 18, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He is the son of Sammy and Kim Talley of Cape Girardeau. He graduated in 1995.

Birmingham, son of Dan and Theresa Birmingham of Cape Girardeau, also enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed-entry program.

He is a 1989 graduate of Ridgecrest High School in Paragould, Ark.

McTurnan also enlisted in the delayed-entry program with the U.S. Navy. He is a senior at Bell City High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William McTurnan of Bloomfield.
