Have you ever wondered what the Jewish Passover and Jesus' Last Supper have in common?
Rob Meisel of Jews for Jesus will answer that question in a presentation called "Christ in the Passover." He will present the program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
Using a display of the traditional Passover symbols, the presentation helps explain the Jewish background of the communion. Both ancient and modern Jewish customs will be discussed. A table set with traditional Passover foods will explain the customs.
Jews for Jesus is an evangelistic ministry that uses traditional Jewish music, drama and customs to portray the message of Christianity.
Founder and former executive director Moishe Rosen said: "Our message is not new, but we're telling it in a new way. For too long the Jewish roots of Christianity have been forgotten."
The service enables Christians to experience a traditional Passover celebration while expressing their faith in Jesus, said David Brickner, executive director. Brickner said that the first followers of Christ were Jewish men and women, and Jews for Jesus is really a '90s ministry with a 2,000-year-old message.
The "Christ in the Passover" presentation is one of the creative ministries developed by Jews for Jesus. Others include films, humorous skits and music. Meisel will be available after the presentation to answer questions.
