A storm system that came through the area late Friday night and Saturday morning left 1.6 inches of snow in Cape Girardeau and 2.2 inches in Jackson.
Alex Dodd, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., said areas to the north and west of Cape Girardeau and Jackson tended to see a bit more accumulation.
The weather didn't seem to cause too many traffic problems, however. The Jackson Police Department said it filed two accident reports, and Capt. Robert Bonney said officers helped pull about eight cars out of ditches. Sgt. Dennis Horn of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said the department did not file any accident reports Saturday but helped pull several vehicles out of ditches.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a serious Saturday morning accident on Interstate 55 in Scott County. At 7:58 a.m., Mychelle M. Sloan, 28, of Sikeston, Mo., lost control of her 2000 Ford on an ice-covered bridge, ran off the road, struck a guardrail and overturned several times five miles north of Miner, Mo. Sloan was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Dodd said some wet snow could fall late today and into Monday morning but that there shouldn't be much accumulation. A system along the Gulf Coast could bring another chance for rain and snow Wednesday, but he said he doesn't expect it will bring significant snowfall. The most snowfall will be toward the south along the Arkansas border, he said.
