About $3,500 worth of computer and technical equipment was reported stolen Thursday from the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center at 1080 S. Silver Springs Road. Director Richard Payne said the items -- three laptop computers, a microphone and a channel mixer -- disappeared a couple of weeks ago while school was in session. He said he delayed notifying police because he thought he could recover the items. "I called pawn shops, hoping to try to find them," he said. "The chances of finding the people who did this are very slim. I just wanted to recover the merchandise." Payne said he filed the report for insurance purposes.
