Five men were killed and five people were injured in area traffic accidents Saturday. Five men were killed and five people were injured in area traffic accidents Saturday.

David Adams, 18, of Charleston was killed in a fiery crash Saturday six miles east of Charleston on U.S. 60, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported. Adams was killed at 1:20 a.m. after he lost control on a curve, ran off the pavement and down an embankment. The car overturned several times before coming to rest on its top and bursting into flames.

Funeral service is Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Three Metropolis, Ill., men were killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a four-wheel ATV Saturday at 1:15 a.m. in Massac County, Ill., the Illinois State Police reported.

Wayne Edward Greer, 19, was driving the motorcycle. He was killed.

Also killed were Weston Scott Fulkerson, 17, who was driving the four-wheel ATV, and a passenger on the ATV, Kevin Reed Throgmorton, 21. The accident happened on Airport Road, but the state police said details are incomplete and the collision is under investigation.

A Blytheville, Ark. ,man was killed when his pickup ran off the edge of the roadway In Pemiscot County, Mo., and struck a mailbox. Joe Reberry, 25, lost control of the car crossed back over the roadway and off the other side, overturning several times and coming to rest on its top. The accident happened at 3:20 a.m. on Route NN, a half mile north of the Arkansas state line.

A Mound City, Ill., man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after an accident at Horseshoe Lake Saturday at 1:30 a.m. Two passengers, riding in the bed of a pickup truck, were injured.

Brad A. Clanahan, 22, of Mound City was charged with DUI after the accident on East Side Drive near Spillway Road.

A passenger in the bed of the pickup truck, Christopher Patton, 15, of Miller City, Ill., was in stable condition at Southeast Missouri Hospital Saturday night. The other passenger in the bed of the truck, Stacy Ice, 19, of Cache, Ill., was treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital and then released. A passenger in the cab of the truck, Dylan Matthew Laws, 17, of Villa Ridge, Ill., received minor injuries but refused treatment, the state police said.

The accident report showed that Clanahan lost control of the pickup truck and ran off the roadway. The passengers riding in the bed of the truck were thrown from the bed. The truck then overturned, landing on the two passengers.

Two boys were seriously injured in an accident Saturday at 2:40 a.m. three miles west of East Prairie on County Road 535. Steven Smith, 15, of East Prairie, was driving and lost control of the car on a gravel road. The car ran into a ditch and overturned several times. Also injured was a passenger, Ryan Wilson, 14, of East Prairie. Both were taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

A 16-year-old girl was injured in a traffic accident Saturday at 12:25 p.m. on Route A four miles south of Kennett.

Stevie Leadbetter, 37, of Seneath, turned into the path of Michelle Jones, 25, of Steele. A passenger in Leadbetter's car, Gina Leadbetter, received serious injuries and was taken to Twin Rivers Hospital in Kennett.
