Mississippian Indian archaeology will be the topic of a lecture Sunday at Southeast Missouri State University.
Dr. Jay Johnson of the University of Mississippi will discuss "Searching for DeSoto in Mississippi: Why Bother?"
The annual Beckwith Memorial Lecture will be held at 2 p.m. in the University Museum.
The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
Mississippian Indian agricultural and hunting settlements were plentiful in the region 1,000 years ago. Ceramic effigy pots and stone tools like arrowheads continually surface in the flood plain region, university officials said.
The University Museum is in Memorial Hall on Circle Drive.
