Southeast Missouri State University will hold a number of events celebrating September as "Archaeology Month in Missouri."
Archaeologist Jeannette Stephens of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale will lecture and present a slide show on Southeast Missouri State University's Beckwith Collection of prehistoric pottery.
Stephens will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday at the University Museum.
The event is sponsored by the museum and the school's sociology and anthropology department.
On Sept. 20, Kids Archaeology Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Museum. The event will feature a number of hands-on activities for children, ages 7 to 12.
Archaeology Month activities locally will conclude Sept. 24 with a special Common Hour program at 12:15 p.m. in Crisp Hall Auditorium. The program by Ann Kern will focus on the archaeology field school held last summer at Ste. Genevieve.
