JACKSON -- The second annual Optimist appreciation banquet was held recently at the Jackson KC Hall in conjunction with the culmination of Optimists in Action Week.

Optimists in Action is a pilot project of Optimist International whose purpose is to involve members of the community in projects sponsored by local Optimist clubs.

The keynote address was given by Mike Price, assistant U.S. attorney.

John Reel, president-elect of OP, introduced local participants in Optimists in Action projects.

They included Larry Ream, lieutenant governor of Zone 14, and Kelly Faircloth, lieutenant governor of Zone 15. Presidents of the zones gave summations of their club's activities in OAW.

The two zones represented all clubs in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Marble Hill, Fredericktown and Perryville.

The international organization has 170,000 members 4,300 clubs in North America and Europe. The Optimist theme is "Friend of Youth."
