An apparent suicide in the parking lot of the Osage Centre Tuesday evening caused the facility to go on lockdown briefly.

Cape Girardeau police spokesman Darin Hickey said a man called 911 around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday and said he planned to harm himself. Police responded within a few minutes to the Osage Centre, but upon arrival found a 22-year-old local man dead in his vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Hickey said.

Because of the situation, the facility was placed on lockdown for about 10 minutes so officers could make sure the area was secure.
