Construction on Bloomfield Road continues and that means more sections of the road have to close for repaving and repairs.
Bloomfield Road will be closed today for reconstruction from Edgewood Drive to the Lutheran Home Drive. It will remain closed until the work is complete.
However, part of the road will re-open to traffic today. The section from Golden Street to Nancy Street will now be open to traffic.
Since July, drivers have been unable to travel Bloomfield Road from Siemers Drive to Silver Springs Road because of reconstruction and widening projects. Traffic has been limited to local residents only.
The road work is part of the Transportation Trust Fund. Cape Girardeau voters approved a half-cent sales tax in 1995 to fund 20 street improvement projects. The tax expires in 2000.
Widening Bloomfield Road from west of South Kingshighway to Siemers Drive and from Christine to Sprigg streets was one of the projects on the list of needed improvements. The Cape Girardeau City Council approved the project at the beginning of the year.
Other road work to be completed this year includes widening Broadway from Clark Street to Perry Avenue and improving Mount Auburn from Route K to Independence.
