Announcement planned Thursday for St. Louis bridge

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- After years of wrangling between Missouri and Illinois, plans for a new Mississippi River bridge at St. Louis will be announced on Thursday.

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich are scheduled to speak at a news conference at 10:45 a.m. at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Hall in north St. Louis County.

Details have not been disclosed, but media reports say the new bridge will be two lanes each way and will not include a toll. Reports have said the bridge would be open by 2015.

Missouri officials had previously favored a toll to help pay for the new span.

The bridge would be the fifth to cross the Mississippi at downtown St. Louis.
