A gala birthday party is being planned by Altenthal-Joerns Post 158 of the American Legion in Jackson as a part of the Legion's worldwide observance of its 78th anniversary in March, according to Norman Sebastian, post commander.
Under a special committee headed by Bill Poe, the 78th birthday of the American Legion will be observed with a banquet at the American Legion hall on North High in Jackson.
Happy hour will be at 5:30 p.m. and the banquet begins at 6:45 p.m. on March 13.
The festivities of Post 158 will be a part of a gigantic anniversary celebration among 1,600 American Legion Posts throughout the United States and several overseas countries and territories.
The American Legion was founded March 15-17, 1919 during a caucus in Paris, France attended by representatives of the various outfits of the American Expeditionary Forces of World War I.
