Ryan Vangilder and Maggie Martin have been named Music Student of the Month for December and January by the Jackson American Legion Post 158
Both are seniors at Jackson High School, and both will receive $100 savings bonds.
The Music Student of the Month program is run through the Legion's Americanism Committee and recognizes outstanding music students. The program is funded by the Legion Bingo Account.
Vangilder, December's honoree, is the son of Scott and Kay Vangilder.
He has been a member of the All-District Band for four years and the SEMO Honors Wind Ensemble. At school he is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Handbell Choir, Jazz Band, Marching Band and Symphonic Band.
Besides that he is the president of the band. He attends Hanover Lutheran Church.
Following graduation, Vangilder plans to attend the University of Missouri and major in mechanical engineering.
Martin, January's honoree, is the daughter of Mark and Catherine Martin.
She is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society Secretary, co-editor of the Squawler, public relations officers for the Spanish Club and a Junior Rotarian.
She also belongs to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Hi-Step, Senior Steering Committee, Varsity Tennis Team and is co-captain of the tennis team.
Martin is also Student Body public relations officer.
As a musician she is an accompanist and instrumentalist.
She plans to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia and major in journalism.
