Auditions for "Amahl and the Night Visitors," the Winter Dinner Theatre presentation by the Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Music, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and next Thursday in Academic Hall.

People are encouraged to audition for the following parts:

Amahl -- boy soprano (age 10-13); Mother -- lyric soprano; Kaspar -- tenor; Melchior -- baritone; Balthezar -- bass; Page -- baritone: Chorus of shepherds and shepherdesses -- open to all ages, genders and voice types.

Those auditioning for principal roles should sing selected excerpts from the show. Those interested in the chorus may sing any song in English.

Everyone auditioning will be considered for the chorus unless specified on the audition form.

Those auditioning should bring their own music. An accompanist will be provided.

The one-act opera in English by Gian-Carlo Menotti will be performed with the University Orchestra at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in collaboration with the Department of Theatre.

Evening performances will be Dec. 6 and 7, and a matinee will be Dec. 6.

Rehearsals will begin in late October and are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and Sunday through Thursday evenings.

Cast members will not be required to be at all rehearsals but should have these times open.
