The April meeting of the American Legion Post #158 was called to order by Commander Seabaugh, at 8 p.m., the Color Guard advanced the colors, Chaplain Boyd Summers gave the opening prayer. The pledge of allegiance to the flag, and the preamble of the American Legion Constitution were recited in unison by the 52 members present.

Program: A program was given by Ken Lipps, Director of Volunteer Services, Public Relations and Fundraising for the Cape Veterans Home. He shared with us an overview of activities at the home. He talked about the improved employee morale over the past few years. There are over 170 full time "equivalents" working at the home.

Minutes of the March, 2000 meeting were approved as printed.

Financial Report: Mike Proctor Report -- approved as read.

Membership: Lloyd Law Membership stands at 642. Goal for this year is 669. REMINDER: 2000 dues are past due!

Graves Information: Glen Bollinger -- Plans are under way for Memorial Day activities May 29.

Trustee: Harlen Siebert -- Planning in progress for location of new signs. Drawing is being developed to submit to the city for approval.

Welfare/Club Room/Hospital: Bill Poe -- Club room report approved as read. Home comers will be August 22-26.

Post Flag Information: Carlton Meyer -- No Report

Americanism Committee: Charles Hutson. Memorial Day program will be at 9 a.m., May 29. Program will be in front of the City Cemetery. In case of rain, it will be at the Legion Hall. Report on selection of Band Students of the Month.

House Report: Leon Laurentius -- Approved as read.

Honor Guard: Bill Sullivan -- The Vietnam "Traveling Memorial Wall" will be at the Arena Park in Cape Girardeau from April 20-24. Opening ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. on the 20th. Closing ceremonies will be at 9:30 p.m., April 24. Volunteers are needed for several activities. If you are interested, please contact Debbie Frank at 335-1631.

Public Relations: Jim Nelson -- Contributions made to the American Legion Post 158 Memorial Scholarship Fund during the past month.

Bingo Leonard Adams: Report approved as read

Baseball: Milton Nitsch -- Second reading of Motion made to give the baseball program $3,000 for operations this season. $1,500 to come from bingo resources, $1,500 to come from the Club Room resources. Motion carried. The total cost of operating the teams will be about $8,000 to $10,000 this year. The additional funds to be raised by the baseball committee. Schedule of baseball games was posted. If you would like a copy of the schedule, contact Milton.

New Business:

1) Motion to give the Auxiliary $500 for preparing the meal for the Birthday Banquet, motion carried

2) Motion to allow $300 to be used for meal preparation for the 14th district meeting April 21. Motion carried.

3) Motion made to support Mike Proctor for Commander, 14th District. Motion passed unanimously. Good Luck Mike.

Drawing: $85.50 in the pot. Roy Davault, not present. 1/2 Pot drawing, Lloyd Law present, Congratulations!

Color Guard retired the Colors. Chaplain Boyd Summers gave closing prayer. Closed the meeting at 9:05 p.m.

Refreshments: Vincent Schwartz Roast Chicken & dressing, fruit cocktail and drink was served to the members present. GREAT CH0W!
