Students and teachers at Alma Schrader Elementary are preparing for a visit from astronaut and Jackson native Linda Godwin.
Godwin, who made her fourth trip into space in 2002, will speak during a schoolwide assembly at 9 a.m. on Oct. 20.
Last year, Alma Schrader fourth-graders participated in a contest through the local NASA outreach.
The class's research project on the history of aviation took first place, earning the school a visit from Godwin.
"It's a neat thing. The students worked really hard for it," said principal Ruthann Orr.
The fourth-grade students, now fifth-graders at Central Middle School, will be bused back to Alma Schrader for the event.
This will be Godwin's first visit to Alma Schrader Elementary.
"I hope she'll be an inspiration to our students," Orr said.
Parents and grandparents of Alma Schrader students are welcome. For more information call 335-5310.
