CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Two Caruthersville High School students were taken into custody Friday morning after a conflict involving an Airsoft pistol.
Caruthersville police responded about 8:08 a.m. to a report of an altercation between two juveniles, according to a Friday news release from the city.
Officers were told school staff had found what they believed to be a pistol inside one of the student's backpacks.
Upon investigating what appeared to be the black handgun from the backpack, officers identified it as an Airsoft gun.
Used for sport competition and training, Airsoft guns are replicas of actual firearms but fire BB-shaped plastic or other nonmetallic pellets.
