Curtis M. Long, president of Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM), will be the featured speaker at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Industrial Appreciation Dinner. The annual dinner will be held at the Show Me Center on Southeast Missouri State University campus Oct. 1.
The dinner is designed to honor area industries.
Associated Industries is a not-for-profit corporation representing Missouri business and industry before the Missouri General Assembly and various administrative departments such as revenue, natural resources and labor and industrial relations.
AIM also sponsors numerous other programs and activities to promote the interests of Missouri employers.
Long has been with AIM 24 years, 15 of them as president.
Tickets for the dinner are $20 per person. Businesses may reserve tables of eight, with the company name displayed.
The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Commitment to Excellence award honoring the 1992 industry of the year.
More than 950 people attended the 1991 dinner.
This year's event marks the fifth year for the dinner. Biokyowa was last year's industry of the year. Previous winners were Procter and Gamble in 1990, Lone Star Industries in 1989, and General Sign Co. in 1988.
Planned in conjunction with the industrial dinner is the annual Industrial Fair, to be held Sept. 26-27 at West Park Mall. This event provides an opportunity for employers of area firms to exhibit information about products and capabilities of local industries.
Awards at the fair will be presented in three categories Best Display, Best New Participant and People's Choice. The awards will be presented during the Industrial Appreciation Dinner.
The fourth annual Industrial Appreciation Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 28 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club. A total of 96 golfers participated in last year's tournament. The entry fee is $50 per person for the four-person scramble.
