ADVANCED MAMMOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT AT ST. FRANCIS

Mammography services at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau have been enhanced with the recent addition of new state-of-the-art imaging equipment in the St. Francis Womancare Program.

"With the installation of our two new Bennet X-Ray Technologies' Contour mammography units, we are now able to image more breast tissue than ever before, giving us a better chance to detect breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages," said Barbara Crowell, a nurse in the Womancare Program.

She explained that the Contour Mammography System uses a unique tilting c-arm that enables the system to image additional breast tissue. "Thanks to the tilting c-arm, the patient easily leans forward, comfortable and relaxed, while her breast falls into the image receptor," Crowell explained. "The natural pull of gravity helps to image more breast tissue from the chest wall area where many cancers start. No other mammography system can image as much breast tissue."
