Two children were seriously hurt in separate accidents Thursday night.
A 7-year-old Cape Girardeau boy was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car on Broadway near Capaha Park. The accident occurred at 8:30 p.m., and the victim's name was being withheld because of the seriousness of his injuries.
The accident happened as the child was crossing Broadway. Police did not release the name of the driver pending an investigation into the accident.
An 11-year-old Jackson boy was seriously injured when he ran into the road and into a car on Bella Vista Drive near Fruitland.
Ted B. Walton was still being evaluated in the emergency room of Southeast Missouri Hospital at 9 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Walton was taken to the hospital after a vehicle ran over his legs at 6 p.m.
According to police, Walton ran into the road after a basketball and hit the side of a car driven by Hila M. Bruhl, 16, of Jackson. The vehicle continued over Walton's legs before Bruhl could stop.
Police said Walton was seriously injured in the accident.
