An academic pep rally Wednesday at Cape Girardeau Central High School will honor students for achievements during the school year.
The rally is sponsored by the school's Renaissance Program. In its first year, the Renaissance Program promotes recognition and incentives for good academic progress, attendance and attitude.
The pep rally will be held at 7:45 a.m. in the Tiger Field House. At least half of the school's 1,000 students will be recognized.
The rally includes performances by the band, the choir, the pom pon squad and an airplane toss by the physics class. Students of the month, students with perfect attendance and those on the honor roll will be recognized. In addition, Golden Attitude pins will be presented.
Julia Jorgensen, faculty coordinator of the Renaissance program, said the pep rally is a "celebration of learning."
During the year, other Renaissance activities have included:
Tiger Pride -- a program recognizing good citizenship.
Principal's Breakfast -- recognizing students who have shown improvement in grades or attitude.
Movers and Shakers -- recognizing student leaders.
Academic success -- student discount cards, recognition of scholar athletes and scholar musicians.
Staff recognition programs.
Recognition of perfect or improved attendance or fewer tardies.
Community involvement.
The public is invited to attend the rally.
