Area business leaders will get information on the process to elect a successor to Rep. Jo Ann Emerson on Friday.
Eddy Justice, chairman of the Republican 8th Congressional District Committee, will be the featured speaker at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce First Friday Coffee. The program begins at 7:40 a.m. Friday, with breakfast served at 7 a.m.
The program is titled "8th Congressional District: What's Next?".
Emerson announced last month that she's leaving office to be head of a not-for-profit organization representing electric cooperatives. Her resignation is expected possibly later this month.
Party committees for the 8th Congressional District will nominate candidates for a special election to fill Emerson's seat. The chair of the Democratic committee isn't expected to attend, but was invited, according to the chamber.
The event is open to chamber of commerce members and their guests. Sponsors are Cape Air and Dr. Michael Givens.
