More than 83,500 pounds of appliances and other electronic waste were collected from Cape Girardeau County as part of Jackson's e-cycle event on June 29, according to a news release from the city.

The release said 147 televisions, 168 computer monitors and other miscellaneous electronics and metals were brought in for proper disposal. All hard drives from computers brought in were shredded or erased using U.S. Department of Defense-approved software.

Midwest Recycling Center of Crystal City, Mo., a Missouri Department of Natural Resources-certified vendor, conducted all e-cycling activities.

Because of the popularity of the program, the city will continue hosting an e-cycling event once a year before Clean-Up/Fix-Up Week, according to the news release.
