Thirty-one of New McKendree United Methodist's Women members ages 80 years or older were honored Sept. 27 at the 10 a.m. service at New McKendree. Each of the women had given 50 years or more of service to Methodist Women's organizations. Two of the members, Hester Miller and Esther Wagner, were honored posthumously as they had passed away during 1998. All of the Sunday morning service was conducted by members of the UMW.

A reception was held during the 9 a.m. Sunday School hour and the honored members received a corsage at that time. They were presented with Certificates of Recognition at the 10 a.m. service when the honorees were named and asked to stand while a few remarks were made about each of them. A picture was taken of the group after the service.

Twenty of the honored members were present for the celebration. Some of those not present were residing in nursing homes. Others were unavailable. Those not present were Elizabeth Bowers, Emily fulenwider, Evelyn Hagans, Leita Kiehn, Mildred Luetje, Ruby Morton, Kathryn Rahm, Lou Vera Wilferth and Rhoda Rieman.

The committee organizing the celebration members were Gale King and Eula Limbaugh, co-chairpersons, Sherron Alexander, Edith Eggers, Willa Dean Propst and Doris Davault. Those on the program that morning were Propst, Eggers, Limbaugh, Violet Reynolds, and Ruth Masterson. Kathy Haas and Julie Walker provided special music for the event.
