A 6-year-old girl was injured Friday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle.
The girl ran out in front of a van parked in the 500 block of North Street in Cape Girardeau, Sgt. Rick Schmidt of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said at the scene.
The driver, who was going west, did not see the girl and struck her with her vehicle, Schmidt said.
Cape Girardeau Fire Department battalion chief Fred Vincel couldn't comment on the girl's injuries Friday, citing the federal privacy laws, but said emergency personnel were "providing everything we can at the scene." He said the girl was conscious.
The driver refused medical care. The child was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center and later taken to a St. Louis hospital. She reportedly was in stable condition.
No other information was immediately available.
No charges were issued against the driver.
