KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City health officials said they have confirmed a fourth heat-related death this year. The Kansas City Health Department said Monday a man born in 1951 died of heat-related causes. The department said that another six deaths in the Kansas City area are being investigated as possibly heat-related. State health officials say there have been 29 confirmed heat deaths in Missouri this year. Gena Terlizzi, a spokeswoman for the health department, said 21 of the deaths have been in St. Louis and St. Louis County, four in Kansas City, two in Phelps County, one each in Randolph and Pettis counties. She said the state also has received reports of 1,078 heat-related emergency room visits this year.
