Ticket sales for Southeast Missouri State University's production of "42nd Street" met levels not seen in more than 30 years, the university reported Monday.

The musical ended its two-week run on Sunday afternoon, selling all but six tickets during that time frame.

Perrey Lee, marketing and box office manager for the university's theater and dance department, said tickets were in such high demand that people who tried to buy tickets for the past weekend's shows after they were sold out became upset.

"People were freaking out," she said.

Lee said some people were let into Sunday's show for free on a standing-room-only basis.
