CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Four students at Cape Central High School have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholars program.

Finalists are Daniel Hilty, Kenneth Cantrell, Jason Green and Joe Werne.

Approximately 14,000 finalists were named in the country. Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen from the group. The scholarship range is from $250 to $2,000.

The students were named semifinalists earlier in the year. More than 1 million students entered the National Merit competition by taking the 1989 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholastic Qualifying Test as high-school juniors.
