A shooting at a Cape Girardeau residence left three teens wounded Wednesday night, and police continue to search for a suspect.
Police responded to 132 S. Hanover St. around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday after a report of shots fired. An 18-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 19-year-old were injured in the shooting, said Sgt. Barry Hovis, spokesman for the police department.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, Hovis said.
"The victims reported standing in the front yard when shots rangs out," Hovis said. However, they were vague about what direction the shots were fired from, he said.
Cameron Beasley, who works at a nearby gas station and convenience store on William Street, said he was taking the trash out when he heard what sounded like four gunshots close together.
"They had to have been using an automatic," Beasley said.
One of the victims took off running when police arrived and was found a short time later at Merriwether and Benton streets.
All three victims were treated for their injuries at an area hospital.
Police combed the area near the residence after the shooting, searching for shell casings and other evidence, but no suspects were located as of 10 p.m.
"We're still gathering information," Hovis said.
More than 20 neighbors and onlookers gathered on the sidewalks near the residence.
A woman who did not wish to be identified said she'd lived in the neighborhood 17 years and had spent the past three trying to leave.
"Nothing's unexpected in this neighborhood anymore," she said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621.
